WOW! (Weekend On the Water) That’s the name of a new event sponsored by the City of Concord, which will debut September 7th and 8th this year at Kiwanis Riverside Park off Exit 14 adjacent to the Everett Arena. City fathers have long desired an event that would bring the Merrimack River into focus as a uniquely attractive resource and are encouraging this multi-facetted event that will be jointly sponsored by Concord Parks & Recreation Department, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Concord, the Friends of Concord Crew and New Hampshire Distributors.

Features of the event will be Dragon Boat Racing, an exciting new team sport that originated in Asia, with teams of 22 people (20 paddlers, 1 drummer and a steersperson) racing specially prepared boats being brought in by 22 Dragons of Montreal...

Laura Bryant of the City of Concord Parks & Recreation Department says “in addition to the Dragon Boat Racing we are organizing a Food Truck Rally on both days to make sure that attendees and competitors have plenty of eating choices close to all the action on the river. We’re also planning a program of Live Entertainment and should be able to announce which acts will be involved very soon.”

The Rotary Club of Concord is sponsoring narrated tours of the City on Saturday aboard one of The Super Duck Boats from Boston. Simon Keeling, who is chairing the Rotary Club’s involvement in the event says, “ The sight of one of these unique amphibious vehicles in Concord is bound to create a lot of excitement. We aim to fill up each tour by making it really affordable ($5 for adults and $3 for kids, toddlers on parents knees will be free). Tickets will be available on this site starting Monday, July 1st.

Sunday events will feature a Rowing Regatta being organized by the Friends of Concord Crew. The Regatta will last until about 1pm and will be followed by the final event which will be a Duck Race in which the Rotary Club of Concord expects to launch as many as 10,000 plastic ducks. David Christie from the Rotary Club says, “We are approaching this fundraising event in a uniquely different way. We are inviting Concord Area Charities to join with us in selling the ducks. We are underwriting the entire cost of organizing the race and are offering any charity that partners with us to sell the ducks 50% of the proceeds. We want to make this a really inclusive effort and we are encouraging small groups like Scout Troops and High School Booster Clubs to be involved and raise some money for their pet projects”.

Tickets are now available (1 Duck for $5 or a Quack Pack of 5 Ducks for $20). To get involved and get tickets for your group please print and complete the "Quack Pact" from the link below and mail or fax it in to the contact information on the bottom of the form. We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday and Sunday, September 7th & 8th!
