NH School Funding Fairness Project presentation on “School Funding and Property Taxes”

Ever-increasing school property taxes and growing disparities in tax burdens among New Hampshire communities have rekindled public discussion and debate about how to fund our schools in a way that treats both students and taxpayers fairly.  In response, the Legislature modestly increased state funding and set up an independent commission to recommend reforms.  Gubernatorial and legislative candidate forums this fall are almost certain to focus on school funding and property taxes.   At the same time, the NH Supreme Court is considering a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the current system.  The NH School Funding Fairness Project has held more than 70 forums on this issue in the past two years, and John Tobin, one of the project’s leaders and a longtime Concord resident, will provide both a statewide and local perspective for Concord Rotary Club members.
